Based on E. T. A. Hoffmann’s short story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and Marius Petipa’s “The Nutcracker” ballet. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms stars Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Eugenio Derbez, Matthew Macfadyen, Richard E. Grant, Misty Copeland, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman.
In the film we follow Clara who needs a one-of-a-kind key to unlock a box that contains a priceless gift from her mother. Her journey leads her to a strange and mysterious world. Where she meets, amongst other things and people; a soldier named Phillip, a group of mice and the regents who preside over three realms. However Clara must enter the fourth realm to retrieve the key and restore harmony to the unstable lands.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms gives directing credits to both Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston as clearly neither wanted to take the full burden of blame for this monstrosity.
This film is 100% god awful, piss poor, pure garbage, dog shit. I absolutely hated it.
Everything. I hated everything.
The acting is abysmal from pretty much everyone. Hammy is an understatement. Keira Knightley is specifically dreadful. How anyone got paid to be in this is a travesty.
The movie itself is then also a brilliant combination of predictable, boring and not at all interesting.
The plot of the ballet is effectively the prologue to the adventure, which is obviously told mid film as the leads literally sit down to watch it. In the ballet we see the plot of the original story in which Clara’s mother, Marie, discovers the four realms for the first time. Now with that out of the way the film is in the clear to do whatever it wants and wastes no time continuing with the terrible acting and a few really boring set pieces.
As I’ve mentioned before we follow Clara who might be the most boring, stubborn and idiotic protagonist I’ve seen in a while. Completely unable to see others grief. She also blames people for her mistakes and is easily manipulated. She was a joy to watch…I say very sarcastically.
I beg you. Do not waste your money on this cinematic disaster.
