Oh ho ho it’s Wrestlemania weekend! You know what that means? That’s right NXT. Now granted I might not be as into wrestling as I was a couple of years ago, but I’m still excited about watching the big NXT specials. Even when you look at a card and think ‘hmm, not as strong as a previous one’, they still knock it out of the park!
2 reasons to be excited alone, #DIY and The Revival. So many match of the year candidates come out of their encounters. Will they do it again? Chances are good. Plus you’ve got Bobby Roode verses Nakamura, the first one was great!
Okay, let’s get to the predictions!
SAnitY vs. Tye Dillinger, Roderick Strong, No Way Jose and Ruby Riot
SAnitY. SAnitY will win this one. 2 reasons I say that, firstly Tye Dillinger never ever wins. That’s his gimmick. Secondly, the way to build up groups as dominate, destructive and unbeatable is to have them actually win, a lot. That way, when they are eventually toppled it means so much more. NXT seem to understand that process more than the main roster.
Aleister Black vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
I think I’m going to go with Aleister Black with this one. Almas has been doing so much better since he turned heel and I think his character can take a loss without being damaged. I’m hoping for good things from this match.
Winner: Aleister Black
Triple Threat NXT Tag Team Championships
The Authors of Pain (c) vs. #DIY vs. The Revival
In an ideal world The Revival would win back THEIR NXT Tag Team Championships. Huge fan of Dash and Dawson, a little bit worried that they won’t be given the time to shine on the main roster once they do get called up. I assume that call up will be relatively soon, perhaps even this weekend. I think the Authors of Pain will retain though to continue their domination of NXT for a little while longer.
If I’m honest this match is the main reason I’m going to be watching this Takeover. NXT’s tag team division has been fantastic for years and #DIY and The Revival always do great work.
Winners: The Authors of Pain
NXT Women’s Title
Asuka vs. Ember Moon
It is at this point it becomes apparent just how odd an entity NXT is. Most of my predictions for this show are based on who I think are getting called up. Asuka is another prime contender to appear on the Raw or Smackdown after Wrestlemania.
You can’t strip NXT of all its top-tier talent in one fell swoop though so I do imagine it would be unlikely for The Revival, Asuka and Nakamura all to make the jump at once. I’m not saying it won’t happen, more that it…shouldn’t.
Is it the right time for Asuka’s twinning streak to end?
Winner: Ember Moon
Bobby Roode (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Again, is it time for Nakamura to get his call up? You would assume so.
Am I the only person who thinks Nakamura has lost his way a little bit since his debut last year? Maybe the call up would refocus his character and give him that edge again.
I love Bobby Roode, so seeing him retain would be ‘glorious’.
Winner: Bobby Roode
