Injuries have hit WWE really hard this year. Like, really hard! Harder than I can ever remember. The list is never ending. Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Tyson Kidd, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Sting. Each week a new top star gets hurt and we’re told that they’ll miss Wrestlemania. Even John Cena has fallen by the way side.

With the Royal Rumble event, the official start of Wrestlemania session just around the corner I’ve been trying to put together a ‘Mania card. It’s not been easy. Much like with the WWE themselves, injuries have really messed up some of my ideas. Even one of these is really in doubt. Booking is hard guys!

Outside the main events, which at this point I think are Brock Lesnar Vs Roman Reigns 2 and The Rock Vs Triple H, what else is going on?

How about these…

Goldust Vs Stardust

342ec7fc51b0c64a389b653f37c98b4c_crop_northIt’s a match a lot of fans have been wanting for years. Brother vs brother. It looked like that’s what we were going to see last year, after all they had a rather rushed match at Fastlane that indicated a rematch was forth coming. Out of nowhere the angle got cancelled, maybe the WWE didn’t think it was working? I seem to recall it not getting much attention on TV at the time, so if anyone is to blame it’s probably WWE themselves for not giving it a fair chance. Instead Goldust disappeared and Stardust was just another man in the Intercontinental ladder match.

Stardust has been directionless for a while now and Goldust has just returned after a long absence. They teased us at Survivor Series when the two briefly faced off but nothing has been mentioned since. It seems like perfect timing for them to kick this feud back into gear and finally have the Rhodes brothers face off. Especially if it gives Stardust something to sink his teeth into once more,

The feud can be set up again rather simply within the Royal Rumble match. After both men enter the match, they can have a stare down in the middle of the ring. Maybe they’ll briefly team up before Stardust once again turns on Goldust, eliminating him. The next night Goldust can declare his intention to bring his brother, Cody, back as he’s gone too deep. Whether or not the feud actually ends in a return of the Cody Rhodes character or not doesn’t really matter.

Kevin Owens Vs Sami Zayn

Initially I wanted this to be for the Intercontinental Championship, which personally I think Kevin Owens never should have lost, allowing for a long dominate heel run. Which would ultimately be ended by the underdog Sami Zayn! In theory it still could be but that would require a lot shuffling to get it back on course. That said, the match itself could still happen.

c73c4f58877941cce9b51de4a3a9cac9e16576b8_hqThe rivalry between Owens and Zayn, from a WWE/NXT perspective alone is already packed with history. It’s got friendship, championships, betrayal. It’s modern day Shakespeare I tell you! After what Kevin did to Sami on NXT the redemption/revenge story of Sami Zayn is just begging to be told. Why not do it on the biggest stage of the year?

However with Sami Zayn returning from injury and going back to NXT the next chapter of this feud might have to wait, but it could easily be reignited during the Rumble match. Earlier in the night Kevin Owens loses to Dean Ambrose. Owens is furious, he isn’t done though. During a backstage interview he declares that he’s just getting started, stating his intention to enter and win the Royal Rumble match to go on to headline Wrestlemania.

When he enters, he dominates, eliminating four or five superstars and just generally attacking everyone and anyone. He is the only one still standing as the clock counts down for a new participant.

10, 9, 8, 7…

King: Who could it be?

6, 5, 4…

JBL: Who ever it is, they’re about to kick there butt kicked!

Cole: I don’t envy this superstar that’s for sure…

…3, 2, 1!

Sami Zayn’s music hits and the crowd erupts. Kevin Owens can’t believe it! After a short fight Sami Zayn hits the helluva kick and eliminates Owens. He goes on to make a good showing for himself before being eliminated himself. The rivalry would then continue on Raw the next night culminating at Wrestlemania.
